Sam Rodriguez
M. S. Counseling

I am a seasoned career counselor with over 18 years of experience counseling and coaching individuals with career and workplace issues including career exploration, decision-making, career change, work/life balance, career and job advancement, managing supervisor/employee relationships, and developing effective and successful job search strategies.

My passion is helping others pursue and achieve their career goals. I use intuitive approaches to discovering and understanding your interests, personality, values, strengths and skills. As well as administering and interpreting career test results such as the Strong Interest Inventory, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Campbell Interest and Skill Survey, workplace preferences inventory, skills assessment, and values inventory. This powerful combination of tools will help you identify what you truly want from your career and life.

As a former Assistant Director of Counseling in the Career Development Center at Stanford University, I have over 10 years of management experience and supervised four professional career counselors. I also provided career counseling to undergraduates, graduates and alumni. Presented workshops on job search topics such as interviewing, resume writing and cover letters, and networking.

Additionally, I worked as a career counselor for other Bay Area universities including UC Berkeley Career Center, San Jose State University Career Center, and Golden Gate University Career Services.

Prior to transitioning into higher education, I worked over 10 years in industry, coordinating marketing programs in the B2B sector. I assisted with creating and coordinating collateral material, and communicated with trade publications to promote industrial machinery for a small-sized international sales and engineering company.

Having this combination of experience and personal career change enables me to address many issues clients discuss about their desire for change, such as finding their passion, anxiety over leaving a dead-end career or job, burnout, rust-out, and other factors that may lead to work/life dissatisfaction. I believe there is a right career and job for everybody. First, you must be willing to invest time, energy and resources to make it happen. Start today by taking the next step of determining your future possibilities!
