Following Sheila’s lead with her latest posting, I took some time to reflect upon what is important to me. While in this contemplative state, I happened upon an article that really made me step back & do a re-evaluation of my value system. I needed to take as we say in 12 step parlance, a searching & fearless moral inventory.

As the article queries, are you living your dream life? See what you think.

I came across this article a while back, & thought I would share the author’s insights about honoring choices & differences in how we value what we do. How we derive satisfaction, whether it is in the tangible result, or in the intellectual challenge, & the different kinds of work that bring these things to us are highlighted. Maybe we should take a good look at our own ideas about “Working With Your Hands”.

I found this timely article an excellent explanation of the challenges that I, personally, & my clients are currently facing with regard to our work & our family life. I know I’m working on a plan to help ameliorate some of these issues in my life. However, other important issues they identify are simply out of my control. I have found that at least acknowledging them & talking about them is helpful. See what you think…

Here are the four basic elements the article puts into question, whether you are “the Poor, the Professional, or the Missing Middle”:

Workplace flexibility
Short-term, episodic, and extended time off
Childcare, afterschool care, and adult care
Addressing family responsibilities discrimination
